Impossible Is Nothing

A story of overcoming insurmountable odds.

"No one expected or imagined that a person of my size could win a slam dunk contest or make it into the NBA. I never let my size keep me from excelling in a sport in which the odds of making it to the professional level are nearly impossible."

The Joy In Loving

[A guide to daily living]

The Joy In Loving

"Love cannot remain by itself --- it has no meaning. Love has to be put into action and that action is service. A mission of love can come only from union with God. From that union, love for the family, love for one's neighbor, love for the poor is the natural fruit."

By Blessed Mother Theresa of Calcutta, M.C.

Sing Of Your Love

I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever. —Psalm 89:1

I was driving to work and listening to a local Christian radio station. Amid the usual morning banter came the song "I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever."

I have no idea what came over me. As soon as this uplifting praise song began, I felt tears running down my face. There I was, almost at work, and I could hardly see to drive because of a song. What was going on?

I sat in my car after I arrived at my destination, trying to figure it out. Then it struck me. The song reminded me that while another day of normal activity was beginning here on earth, my daughter Melissa was fulfilling the ultimate hope of that song in heaven. I pictured her brightly singing of God's love—getting a head start on the rest of us in that forever song. It was a bittersweet moment of understanding Melissa's joy while being reminded again of our sadness in not having her with us.

"Much of life is like that. Joys and sorrows intermingle—making reminders of God's glory so vital. We need those glimpses of a promising praise-filled future in our Savior's presence. In the sadnesses of life, we need the anticipation of joy—the joy that comes from singing of God's love and enjoying His presence forever." —Dave Branon

The saints of all ages in heaven sing praise
With voices and harps to the Ancient of Days;
No music on earth with that sound can compare,
Yet in that vast chorus our voices will share. —D. De Haan

Those who know Christ now will sing His praises forever.

Hearing And Doing

Read: James 1:19-27

Be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. —James 1:22

I read about a man in New York City who died at the age of 63 without ever having had a job. He spent his entire adult life in college. He had acquired so many academic degrees that they looked like the alphabet behind his name.

Why did this man spend his entire life in college? When he was a child, a wealthy relative died who had named him as a beneficiary in his will. It stated that he was to be given enough money to support him every year as long as he stayed in school. And it was to be discontinued when he had completed his education.

The man met the terms of the will, but by staying in school indefinitely he turned a technicality into a steady income for life—something his benefactor never intended. Unfortunately, he spent thousands of hours listening to professors and reading books but never "doing." He acquired more and more knowledge but didn't put it into practice.

This reminds me of what James said: "Be doers of the Word, and not hearers only" (1:22). If we read the Bible or listen as it is taught but fail to put to work what we have learned, we are as bad as that man with his string of degrees. His education was of no practical benefit to anyone.

Hearing must be matched by doing. —Richard De Haan

We take delight to read God's Word
And say, "Oh, yes, it's true!"
But it's of little use to us
Unless we hear and do. —D. De Haan

Open your Bible prayerfully, read it carefully, obey it joyfully.

Who can become members of SFC?

Any single person can become a member of Singles for Christ. SFC is mainly a Catholic organization, but is open to membership to all Christians of other denominations. The participants need not have any specific religious and/or spiritual background to become a member. Singles for Christ draws its membership from all sectors of society - young and old, rich and poor, etc. SFC transcends all cultural, economic, educational, social and other distinctions. SFC is equally adaptable to all local and foreign settings.

What is CFC Singles for Christ?

CFC Singles for Christ aims to provide a Christian support environment for single men and women who are at the crossroads of their state of life, choosing between marriage, a religious vocation, or single blessedness. SFC is now established in many key cities and states around the world.

Singles for Christ as a support environment:
* teaches the individual the right values to build their future on;
* surrounds the individual with friends who are well-meaning and have a positive influence;
* provides the individual with opportunities to meet potential partners in life who believe in the same Christian goals and values;
* involves the individual in service that prepares them for the responsibility of marriage and family life; and,
* helps those with a vocation for the priesthood or religious life to discern their calling.

SFC uses a three-pronged evangelization approach: Attraction, Retention and Transistion. Attraction establishes creative ways of bringing single men and women to community. Retention keeps members actively involved through community life expereince and innovative formation. Transition involves the proper transition of youth to singles and singles to couples.

Today is Ash Wednesday

Matthew
Chapter 6

16
"When you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites. They neglect their appearance, so that they may appear to others to be fasting. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
17
But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
18
so that you may not appear to be fasting, except to your Father who is hidden. And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you.

"In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, until you return to the ground; for out of it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you shall return."
